Grow contained some good information; however I felt it was somewhat poorly written and organized.
Haven't gotten into it as yet.
Practical, real life advice on starting a project or a business, in a disciplined but creative format that is fun too. The steps and lessons in this handy sized book are really a course in Business 101 at a grad school level. Having co founded and run a small business for 40 years (which grew from 3 to over 120 and is still alive and well), which had dozens of new projects every year, this book could be a guide for anyone coming into our firm. Much of what is here, many have had to learn the hard way. Easy to use, filled with examples of real life creative people, it goes to the heart of the human essentials needed to make a creative enterprise survive beyond the initial enthusiasm of the creators. Business is a creative art in itself regardless of it subject - this book demonstrates that and will help anyone who is willing to take that start up risk. It is also a useful aid for those enterprises up and running, not just in the DIY world. MW, Portland, Maine
This book is a great guide book for any aspiring creative person who wants to take an idea and turn it into something real. It tackles the reality of how to get a project funded and off the ground, probably the hardest part of the process. The author breaks down an otherwise daunting task into discrete pieces. It is also clearly written for someone who wants to take advantage of new opportunities, like social media and crowd-source funding. At the same time, it gives good guidance on how to reflect on you goals and stay true to your idea as the project grows. Finally, it's a fun and easy read.
I went to the library and checked out a massive pile of books, only to purchase this by chance the next day. After reading chapters out of the stack as well as out of this book, I have realized that this is the only one I need. The writing is concise and engaging, there is nothing too dense or superfluous as there normally is in business books. The design is gorgeous and contributes to a positive experience for the reader. Highly recommended, great quality read!
