The writing is outstanding! The topics were very difficult for me at times and I cried buckets of tears for Jenna, children & adults who have dealt with the horrors and those currently unknown in the sex trafficking world. The disparity ripped at my heart when her flashbacks occurred and I understand the anxiety they can bring. Pedophiles should ALL receive extensive jail time and never deals as they do in the FBI cases. I hated reading that, but know it occurs regularly in the judicial process!.The best part of this series is the love story and family. I agree with Rylan, family doesn't mean DNA is the same. There is a HEA ending and that's always good in a series like this.Heed the warnings of these books before you start. The details are very graphic regarding rape, pedophilia, kidnapping, sex trade, children sexually assaulted, flashbacks, parental misconduct to put it mildly and even murder. I skimmed over many parts, but Jenna's character has had a horrendous beginning.
I shoud have read the reviews before buying. I definitely wasn't prepared for the uncurrent of child pornography abuse that is throughout these books. I'm stuggling with my review and rating. It was not anything like the other erotic alpha male books I've read, but it was also very similar. The writing style is very good and I was gripped the entire read - but I had to skip quickly through sections that described the girl's childhood abuse, as it was very disturbing. Not something I want to read to relax and enjoy. So, reader beware - similar alpha male erotica, but with a very disturbing undercurrent.
Some parts of this novel series is extremely disturbing. The relating of the sexual abuse of Jenna during the first 12 years of her life is integral to the story because it explains much of heroin behaviour and trust issues. That this narrative unfolds through the story means it is inescapable. On that level I wish I had no read this book. That horror is not one I wish to bring into my recreation time, which reading romance novels is all about for me.Nonetheless the romance between Jenna and Rylan is great steamy hot reading. I love Ryan even though he is top of my list of heroes too good to be true even for over the top fiction.
I really enjoyed these books. I do love box sets because I don't have to wait to get the whole story. These characters were three dimensional, with pasts and past connections. I look forward to reading more by M.S. Parker.
M.S. Parker's The Pleasure Series is an incredibly good story. Harrowing in some parts, hopeful and romantic in others. I absolutely loved the characters, and boy did the author develop them well! The plot was nothing like I've read before, and it was quite disturbing at times. But I loved, loved, loved the book and I'm so glad to have read this story. My only criticism is that with an author this talented and so popular, she really should find a better way to spot and correct typos. But it's OK-the story was so good that the typos take a back seat. Thanks for sharing your talent with us!
At first I wasn't sure but as I continued I was hooked. I am giving it 4 stars because I didn't like the 4 year interim books. The author was graphic in her portrayal of the pedophile sex trafficking and the depravity of some people. Jenna was a strong character and I agonized with her as she struggled to heal. Rylan was exceptional. His all accepting love an inspiration. Prepare yourself for many graphic sex scenes.
As much as I liked the love story between Rylan and Jenna and their characters there were parts of the story I felt were missing. Dylan's family and friend were quite disturbing and awful towards Jenna and he didn't much about it while they were together. Also what ever happened with the work Jenna was doing with the FBI.... Were more people captured? Arrested?? Also the sex scenes dragged on among the two. Best part was the ending and somewhat predictable. I've read much better series by this author.
I loved this series. I enjoyed the story and the main characters. The author was very descriptive, but not gratuitous, in revealing what the main female went through as a child. I thought it added to the story, but am also aware it can be a trigger for some readers. I read it as a Kindle Unlimited Free series and was so impressed with the story, I bought the book to add to my collection. I then started seeking out other books by this author.
