Very cute puppet and drawings. My only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that the words were a bit wrong. Maybe they were following a different version, but it makes it awkward to sing along to. For example, I've always heard the song as "and washed the spider out", but the book says "and washed poor Itsy out".
So much fun! You need to sing the song very slowly in order to be able to actually have time to look at the pictures on each page, and my nephew (1.5) ends up being mostly occupied by the 'dancing' spider that I operate with my finger pushed through the back. I'll be dancing the spider around and he gets a kick out of poking it back into the hole. He'll do it on every page and laugh. The pictures are indeed fun, if your little one gives you the time to explain them. Worms with sunglasses, smiling bugs, and sunshine. Once through with the book we'll put it aside and I'll pick up his tiny hands and direct him through the song's hand gestures like I learned when I was little while singing the song again. So much joy in the whole experience! Would buy again for any little one.
This is a classic song, so I can sing the story to my little one as I flip the pages. As other people mentioned, the words in one section are slightly different that the song I learned, but it's a minor detail. The book reads "washed poor Itsy out" where I normally sang "washed the spider out." It's a cute book, and a great size to throw in the diaper bag for easy entertainment on the go. The finger puppet is great, and well attached. My baby has tested this out voraciously, and there have been no safety concerns with her getting the fabric loose.
Yes, some of the words to the rhyme aren't how I remember them but I just change them when I read it to my kid. Pics are cute and colorful, the book is of a smaller size and my 5 month old really enjoys seeing the puppet dnace when I read to him. Unlike any book we have and fun to have something move along with the story.
Bought this for my 2yr old daughters second birthday. My girls are obsessed with itsy bitsy spider so I thought this would be adorable. It seems very sturdy and has thick pages. The spider is very well attached to the book. I would recommend this to a friend!
My 10 month old granddaughter loves the Puppet Book series. The finger puppet always elicits a smile and she listens intently to the story while keeping a close eye on the puppet :) The sturdy cardboard pages make the book durable. My only complaint is that the pages can be hard to turn with one hand as you try to keep the puppet moving (might be a lack of coordination on my part - lol!)
I got this book for my six-month-old niece. She really enjoys the wiggly spider puppet, and I think it really helps to hold her attention as well. Her mom uses this book for dual purposes -- actually reading the book, and singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" to the baby. The baby seems to enjoy both purposes. She is also much more focused on puppet books than she is on regular board books, which is great.
These books are very entertaining, both for me and my granddaughter. The finger puppet is long enough to allow you to act out the stories for the child. We have several of these puppet books, and they are good quality and good value. The spider book follows the "water spout" nursery rhyme.
